UTAir Boeing 737-800, flight UT-579 from Moscow Vnukovo, Russia overrun the runway and its caught fire on landing at Sochi International Airport in Russia on 31 August 2018.

The flight UT-579 with 164 passengers and 6 crew, attempted three times to land unsuccessfully due to bad weather, and finally landed on runway 06 at 02:57L, but its left wing hit the ground. the aircraft skidded and overran the end of the runway as its left engine burst into flames., and fell down an embarkment into the bed of Reka Mzymta river, past the runway.

The rescue team evacuated the flight.. some passengers were forced to jump down onto the wings of the plane and ‘throw’ their children down to safety. 8 of 18 passengers injured were taken to hospital, one airport worker died of a heart attack while on rescue.

The aircraft was damaged beyond repair. The left engine caught fire and burnt the left wing.
