MIDDLE EAST-AUGUST 13, 2018
Dubai Civil Court has ordered FlyDubai to pay a Russian brother and sister Dhs800,000 ($217,796) for the death of their parents in the 2016 FlyDubai plane crash.
The flight FZ981 with 62 passengers and crew onboard, crashed while attempting to land in bad weather at Rostov-on-Don airport on March 19, 2016 killing all occupants.
The initial report indicated that Pilot error was the likely cause of the crash. The crew had aborted a second attempt to land because of the strong winds, but at almost 3,000 feet, the plane began to descend rapidly and crashed.
Following the incident, the Russian Authorities called for review on “go around” training for pilots to know how to react in similar circumstances.
The lawyer was seeking Dhs36m ($98m) for each parent’s death but the court ruled the Dhs800,000 plus interest was sufficient.
44 Russian, eight Ukranian, two Indian and One Uzbek passengers, seven crewmembers and two pilots died on the crash.
