Boeing’s next new jet 797 would be built with a combination of aluminium alloy fuselage and carbon composite wings.. according to Steven Udvar-Hazy, executive chairman of Air Lease Corp. reported Dominic Gates in Seattle Times.

The airframer is mostly likely to follow the structural combination used in its forthcoming 777x for the new 797 to reduce production cost.

Boeing wanted to make sure that the plane is affordable and be competitive in price and comfort of Airbus A320neo and A321s.

The 797 will be a twin-aisle airplane having a seating capacity of 220 to 270 passengers and with a range of about 5,000 nautical miles. The NMA would be a model in between Boeing 737 and 787.

According to Seattle Times, “For now, Boeing is struggling to come up with a business plan that can ensure the required multibillion-dollar investment will earn a return, as the 797 faces stiff competition from much-cheaper derivative models of Airbus’s A321 and A330 airplanes.”…and “Airbus has highlighted its ability to squeeze the 797 by selling its A321neo at the small end of Boeing’s target market and its A330neo at the large end.”

Industry expected that Boeing would launch 797 at the ongoing Farnborough Airshow, but it seems that the launch would be pushed to early next
