SriLankan Airlines Airbus A330 hit the runway lights after touchdown at Cochin Airport in southern Indian state of Kerala on Sunday 27 May 2018.
The flight UL167 from Colombo, Sri Lanka with 228 passengers and 12 crew onboard landed at the airport at 3:55 PM, but touched down one meter away from the designated path due to strong crosswinds and veered toward the runway edge and hit the runway lights.
“Due to the ambient conditions, strong winds and heavy rain, the aircraft veered toward the runway edge and caused damage to some ground lights,” the airline said in a statement. No injuries were reported.
The runway was closed for 50 minutes, and only one Jet airways flight from Mumbai was diverted due to the incident.
